An original of the first and only volume of Romania national poet Mihai Eminescu’s Poesii sold for 6,000 euros in Casa Artmark’s rare book and autograph auction.
This made it the highest bid of the auction.
The runner-up was auctioned off at 5,000 euros: an 1880 photograph of Eminescu.
We only have four known photographs of Mihai Eminescu.
The book was published in 1883.
The auction was held at the Cesianu-Racovita Palace in Bucharest.
Among other interesting pieces, a photograph of Constantin Brancusi lounging in an armchair in France while visiting Marcel Duchamp sold for 600 euros.
The next Artmark auction will take place on February 20 – but it will focus on contemporary and postmodern art.
