My name is Dan and I am the full-time tour and mountain guide and owner of Outdoor Activities in Romania. My dream was to become a guide and have the privilege of showing others the many beautiful places that I’ve seen in Romania.
Before deciding on the right path for me (almost literally) I worked as a computer programmer.
But I realized this was never going to be my dream job and I needed to be out in nature. There were many sleepless nights, a lot of tossing and turning, but eventually I quit my job in 2013 and plunged into the unknown, head first. It was the best decision of my life.
I started my story with an old backpack, too small for my dreams and plans, and a pair of mountain boots that were too worn-out for the trips I had in mind.

I started the company in 2015 and have never looked back. I quickly found key people to help me cover the most important angles: guiding, photography, marketing strategy. I made a promotional video with our small team, showcasing some of the activities we can do all year round.
With Outdoor Activities we wanted to offer something different. We focused on more remote areas, isolated hamlets, visiting locals or socialising at a local pub just to get the vibe of the place. Our tours are active and they include at least one hike. The activities we usually offer are hiking all year round, kayaking in the Danube Delta, snowshoeing, horse riding, biking, visiting craftsmen.
Every tour is custom-made which makes it very special. One key aspect that makes us stand out is the field work. The guides at Outdoor have seen 80% of the country; they have traveled hundreds, thousands of kilometers on foot, looking for the best places; best places to hike, eat, sleep and engage with the locals. All this work has been poured into our tours; every tour is basically a story we want to tell to our guests.
Speaking of guests we served people from all corners of the world: UK, USA, Australia, Slovenia, Hong Kong, Dubai, Netherlands, Israel, India, Sweden, Mauritius.
Every tour is thoroughly examined in advance by our staff. As locals, we always look for authentic and charming locations, for good food and good views. And we have the pictures to prove this.
Since we are so good at what we do Tripadvisor speaks highly of us. As a travel company, we have received the Certificate of Excellence many times.
In 2020 I started to think post-pandemic period and developed a side project: active tours for children. Basically, we do day hikes, every Saturday, with small groups. This was a smash hit so I went further: organized a summer camp in 2021; for 2022 we have two summer camps.
Outdoor Activities has been featured in different magazines in Romania but also on travel blogs from Netherlands and Australia. A dream come true, right? And it all started with an idea. The idea became a spark, and the spark turned into a flame.
