A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 degrees on the Richter scale hit southerneasten Romania on Thursday. It was felt in the capital, Bucharest. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The temblor occurred at 6.50 am local time had its epicenter 19 kilometers from the town of Nehoiu in eastern Romania, the National Institute for Earth’s Physics announced. It was also felt in northeast Bulgaria, southern Moldova, and southwestern Ukraine
The earthquake rumbled at a depth of 148 km, the institute said. It was the biggest quake in four years.
Romania’s last devastating earthquake occurred in 1977, leaving more than 1,500 dead and demolishing large sections of the capital.
