Romania’s Covid-19 cases highest in more than one month

Romanian posted  95 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, the highest daily figure in more than a month. Four deaths were also reported in the past 24 hours.

The Strategic Communication Group said on Tuesday there were 36 patients in intensive care units out of 244 who are receiving hospital treatment.

Bucharest posted 14 cases, more than anywhere else. The county of Cluj added 7 cases and Iasi and Timis counties each reported six new cases.

Nineteen counties didn’t report a single case of of SARS-CoV-2 Tuesday, authorities said.

Tuesday’s  figure is much lower than several months ago when cases surged, but it was the highest since June 16 when  103 cases were reported.

It is also more than double than Monday when 46 cases were added.  For the past month cases have stayed low, less than 80 cases a day.

Restrictions have gradually been lifted in recent months. Face masks are still compulsory in indoor public places.

About one-fourth of Romanians are fully inoculated.
