VIDEO | Romanian rap, wine and pottery making at festival in Washington to celebrate Romanian-American friendship

Traditional Romanian dances, rap, wine and pottery making are on offer during a special Romanian weekend in Washington to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the country and the United States.

Billed as ‘the Romanian Weekend at the Wharf,’  the festival will feature dozens of “boisterous, colorful, appetizing and super fun” events including live music, traditional dances, craft shows, exhibitions and wine and food.

This weekend marks the quarter century since  celethe launch of the US-Romanian Strategic Partnership for the 21st Century.

Romania’s embassy to the United States, the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York and the Maramures County Council and The Wharf are organizing the event which is also financially supported by Banca Transilvania, a press release said. 

For Universul.net readers who are in the American capital, the festival is taking place on the District Pier of The Wharf  (101 District Square SW, Washington DC 20024).

The „Transylvania” National Folk Ensemble, based in Baia Mare, Maramureş County, was founded in 1959 and tapped into rich millennial folk traditions of the Romanian people, preserved from generation to generation in an unaltered form to the present day.

Together with the traditional music and dances, the ensemble brings on stage a true spectacle of costumes from Maramureş County and manually produced jewelry. The „Transylvania” National Folk Ensemble proudly represents Romania to international fairs and exhibitions bringing with them wherever they go the fascinating universe of the Romanian village and its manifold artistic expressions.
