Simona Halep becomes the new face of BMW in Romania

Romanian tennis champion Simona Halep is the new face for BMW in Romania.

The 2019 Wimbledon champion on Friday received an electric model worth 100,000 euros according to sport.ro and immediately got behind the wheel.

She is the second sporting star in Romania to represent the German popular luxury brand after football legend Gheorghe Hagi.

“I am really happy to follow my idol Gheorghe Hagi,” said Halep at a press conference with Michael Schmidt, the owner of Automobile Bavaria Group, which imports the German automobiles.

„I’m passionate about cars and I love driving,” she said.

Asked what kind of driver she was, she said: “I drive the way I play tennis.”

Both Hagi and Halep are natives of the Black Sea port of Constanta.

Halep, 30, has won 23 WTA singles and two Grand Slam titles, the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019 when she defeated Serena Williams in two sets.
