Romania media is reporting that former President Traian Basescu has been hospitalized in Paris due to heart problems.

G4 Media on Frday quoted sources close to the former leader saying he was admitted to hospital in the French capital on Thursday with “cardiac problems.”

On Wednesday, he lost his appeal at Romania’s top court which found him guilty of collaborating with the Securitate communist secret police, ending a three-year trial.  The ruling is final.

There was no word on the former president’s Facebook page or any statement from his office or family about his health status.

Mr Basescu, 70, is a member of the European Parliament. He was president from 2004 to 2014.

Media reported that he had recently not been well. He was active on his Facebook in February with posts about the Russian-Ukraine crisis right up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 and immediately afterwards.

His only post so far in March was on Wednesday when he reacted after losing his appeal. He said he would take his case to the European Court for Human Rights.
